  • Barossa Pavilions & Glasshouse Wildlife Sanctuary

    Address:
221 Yaldara Drive, Lyndoch SA, Australia .

BWR officially released the first BWR joeys into the Rose Brooks Wildlife Sanctuary donated by Barossa Pavilions & Glasshouse! The sanctuary has been a dream several decades in the making, and we are very proud to announce that it is finally in operation.

In late June a team of 30 volunteers including members from BWR, Arborgreen, Weber Barbeques, and soldiers from the Australian Army came together to plant 400 native plants across the sanctuary. Since then, the fencing has been finalized, shelters have been constructed, and the first three BWR joeys have transitioned from the separate joey yard into the larger sanctuary area.

We released one each of the three kangaroo species that will call the sanctuary home: Oscar the Western Grey Kangaroo, Jack the Red Kangaroo, and Pebbles the Euro. We have now also had two emus that are now permanent sanctuary residents!

Unfortunately, the sanctuary won’t be open to the public: but as it is on our property you will see this in full action, having access to the main drive! it is designed to be a private area for our rescue kangaroos to live long, happy and quiet lives, with lots of space to hop around. However, a “Grand Opening” is being planned for some time in the next couple of months where we will officially name the sanctuary after the incredible woman who started it all, BWR founder Rose Brooks, complete with a sign for the front gate.

Thank you to all of our members and supporters that helped make this dream a reality!
